Secure Wireless Network FAQ:
We have already set up our wireless internet. We didn’t have it secured when we set it up because we were in the county and didn’t think it would matter. Now we need it to be secure because we moved to an apartment complex and someone is stealing our internet. How do we do it?

what type of wireless internet router are you using?
you can try typing in 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in your internet browser
if you are using linksys you can go to
and it can tell you how to set your network up to require a password.
what you need to do is enable it to use a password when connecting, preferably wpa2 should work. make sure its Upper case, lower case and numbers thrown in about 8 -12 characters long.
If you connect to your router then you will require to enter it only once (usually it stores it on your computer until the password changes)
this should secure your internet
but do let me know what type of wireless router you have and if you still don’t understand how to do this, I’ll try to help but cannot guarantee anything.
You will have a piece of paper with or on your router that has an IP address i.e 182.106.1.1 and a user name and password i.e Admin and Password
use a wired connection for the time being
type the IP address in your browser and hit enter, it will as for the user name and password. Put them in and you will get lots of settings! Depending on the router… Navigate to the section where you set up security and you can create a WEP key or a WPA/WPA2 WPA are better but weps are much more simple!
When you set your key it must be a certain length!
When you make your key make one you can remember or write it down.
Then when you connect to it using your laptop set it to remember the key or to automatically use that connection..
Hope that helps?
It can be rather tricky but after fiddling with the settings you should be able to get it! Oh and just in case you need it there is a reset button on routers which you normally need a tooth pick to use and you have to hold it in for a while.
However once they are set up they are VERY reliable and will keep them settings even if You unplugged it!
go to 192.168.0.1 and chose ur WPA password for ur wireless
