1. Change the default password to logon to your router.
2. Disable Remote management.
3. Change the default SSID.
4. At a minimum use WPA-PSK TKIP for encryption, even better would be WPA2 with AES provided all client computers support AES.
5. Create a long passphrase minimum 15-63 characters, letters, numbers, Upper case etc. Don’t use any dictionary words in your passphrase. e.g 1W812Pq0bercz98P is an example of a secure passphrase. Save the passphrase in a text file on a USB Flash drive so that you can copy and paste to connect any computer to your wireless network.

Others might suggest you disable SSID broadcast and enable MAC address filtering. I don’t think it’s necessary, because if you do everything else mentioned above your WLAN will be secure enough.
